The Mill
Le Moulin, spacious and friendly, has been carefully restored. Its 3 bedrooms allow it to accommodate 9 people. A former wheat mill, it has been carefully restored while keeping its original equipment. It thus keeps its authentic character of yesteryear
The ground floor paved with stones opens onto a large room in the middle of which sits the large mill wheel and its gears.
The ground floor also communicates with a small private herbaceous courtyard bordered by weeping willows adjacent to the reach of the river. There are WCs on the ground floor.
A staircase leads to the first floor consisting of a spacious living room, with a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen.
On the second floor, a large landing opens onto three bedrooms, two of which have double beds and one has three single beds. Without forgetting a bathroom equipped with WC as well as a shower room equipped with WC and a sink.

Back to History
The mill of Lurais existed before 1200. It belonged to the abbey St Cyprien of Poitiers. There were in fact two mills: the second was located 150 m downstream, where the miller's house was, called the Treille (no longer existing).
In 1810, François Jallet, the mill's owner, daily caught 200 shads at the bottom of his lock.
In 1836, the Lurais mill employed 3 millers and 6 assistants.
In 1838, Mr. Jules Collin de Souvigny, owner of Coudon on the neighboring shore, created an oil factory there (rapeseed, flax, carnation, hemp seed, walnuts).
In 1847 the mill burned down and was rebuilt the following year.
In 1920 it was sold by Paul David to the Verna / Dumiot family who put it in standby. And for good reason: already owning the Tournon-Saint-Martin and Yzeures-sur-Creuse mills, they wanted to avoid competition!
